Description
Ballard Power Systems has a position available for a Senior Electrical Engineer to work as part of the Systems Engineering team.

The successful candidate will be team focused in addition to working independently and providing technical leadership in the ongoing development of Ballard's fuel cell products.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform design, packaging and verification of electrical systems (motive, testing, stationary, etc.)
  • Provide electrical team leadership, working towards a potential Team Lead position
  • Selection and sourcing of electrical components (sensors, controllers, converters/inverters, PCBA, contactors, transformers, etc.)
  • Development of component design requirements from system requirements
  • Design prototype components and subsystems
  • Build prototype electrical systems
  • Verification of designs through analysis and testing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve existing electrical components and systems
  • Assist in preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
  • Prepare and/or review technical drawings

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
  • 5 - 10 years' of experience in an electrical engineering field
  • Experience designing, drawing, analyzing low and medium voltage systems
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
  • Ability to create Process and Instrumentation diagrams from requirements
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code, and relevant international standards
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers in the field
  • Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
  • Excellent time management, leadership, mentoring, and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness and capability to travel internationally (infrequent travel, < 5%)

Assets:

  • Eng preferred
  • Knowledge or experience with fuel cell technology
  • Experience with PLCs, Alarm Lists, I/O drawings, related documentation
  • Experience with EMC standards and testing
  • Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
  • Experience with floating DC voltage systems
  • Experience / proficiency in automation and machine communication
