Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a seasoned individual with applicable experience in Outside Plant Engineering for an Area Design Lead position in our Regulated Telecom Group.  This position will be located in the Minneapolis Metropolitan area.  This Lead will supervise our CenturyLink OSP Design team in Minnesota totaling approximately 12 to 18 people.  The Lead will be responsible for managing the key client interfaces within the state and managing design work for FTTN, FTTH, FTTT, Road Relocations, augmentation projects and special circuit requests, utilizing the following tools:

  • NDS
  • AutoCAD
  • Fireworks/Bidmaster
  • JDS
  • FORTE
  • WFMT
  • ARMOR
  • TIRKS
  • LFACS

In addition, this position is responsible for reviewing processes for outside plant engineering/design requirements and deliverables to assure that client expectations are met, as well as meeting contractual obligations and compliance with industry standards/policies. The ability to manage project deadlines and deliverables is essential.  The Area Design Lead works closely with the Area Field Lead and Projects Controls group in the overall management of projects. The ideal candidate has an advanced understanding of both POWER and CenturyLink project processes and work flows. Specific duties include:

  • Successfully lead a team of engineers in an organized and efficient manner to achieve customer goals for network expansion and deliverables
  • Perform Self-check, Quality Control of team work for completeness, accuracy, meeting client standards, of key features, and overall presentation quality appearance
  • Prioritize and re-prioritize personnel and own tasks as needed in a fast-paced working environment, especially when dealing with time sensitive issues and mandated deadlines
  • Review action lists
  • Assign work to team
  • Assist with project status reporting

The Area Field Lead must be able to interact with key members of the project team including the supervision of multi-discipline team members. Your ability to promote a culture of teamwork and best practices will be the key to your success. Decision making skills and the ability to exercise good judgment are required to successfully handle these responsibilities.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Eight (8) years of experience in the fiber-optic/telecommunications / telecom construction industry
  • Five (5) + years of experience of Telecom Outside Plant Engineering
  • Three (3) + years of experience in management and supervision
  • Strong working knowledge using NDS design software
  • Must exhibit knowledge of Right-Of-Way acquisitions and law; and be able to effectively communicate with permitting agencies and private landowners.
  • Relevant experience with CenturyLink projects is a must
  • Software skills include understanding of NDS, AutoCAD, Fireworks/Bidmaster, JDS, FORTE, WFMT, ARMOR, TIRKS, LFACS, Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated project management and project/client development skills including: understanding of project scope, quality assurance, risk monitoring and control, management of project teams, conflict resolution, good presentation and communication skills
  • Must be a self- starter with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, goal driven, have an exceptional client service attitude, as well as strong organization, communication, and document coordination skills
