Description
OMICRON is a leading manufacturer of primary and secondary test equipment for electric power systems. The Application Engineer will be responsible for providing high-level technical support of our primary products and their applications in the Southwest region. The position is to be located remotely on the West Coast and will be reporting to the PRIM Engineering Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Direct involvement with power system apparatus diagnostics, transformers, switchgear, rotating machines and ancillary equipment.
  • Provide focused expertise and guidance to the industry and peers on OMICRON Primary test instruments and their applications.
  • Conduct customer visits to maintain customer relations and increase revenues.
  • Product consultation and training on electrical theory and diagnostic methods, including application, data analysis, power system apparatus evaluation and report generation to our customer base. Topics will include, but are not limited to: Power Factor (PF), Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), Dielectric Frequency Response Analysis (DFR), and Partial Discharge (PD).
  • Coordinate all technical issues with OMICRON's sales representatives and distributors.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems for customer and sales support.
  • Provide input on new products, product strategies, development, and application needs.
  • Manage and develop application notes and technical papers, including presentations at relevant seminars/conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Work Experience

  • At least 3-5 years' experience of PRIMARY testing and field diagnostics.
  • 3 + years of proven experience in the utility, OEM or consulting services - more than one preferred.
  • Experience with testing and diagnostics of relay and protection schemes are a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of power system substations, generation, transmission and distribution of electric power.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Master's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering preferred.

May be required to use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): hard hats, safety boots, ear protection, safety glasses, fall restraint, FR clothing.
