Description

Under close supervision, the Power Marketing Coordinator II assists with MISO Day Ahead position strategy and implementation, longer-term bilateral power contract administration, energy reporting, and interchange accounting activities for Cooperative Energy. This position assists in coordinating marketing services including purchasing and selling power and interfacing with system operations personnel, third party marketers, and other utilities. Facilitates Next Day natural gas burn projections for Cooperative Energy fuel team. Compiles or contributes to reports for internal use and reporting to outside entities (NERC, SERC, Department of Energy, etc.) as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in coordinating next day and beyond power portfolio optimization.
  • Communicates with Plant Supervisors to determine generator availability, and ensure generating resources are appropriately reflected in Energy Market Offers or bilateral opportunities.
  • Communicates with System Operations and others to ensure all generation resource requirements are met on an hourly, day-ahead and longer term basis.
  • Assist in coordinating all power marketing activities for Cooperative Energy, including bilateral and ISO markets as applicable.
  • Evaluates DA and RT markets from recent history and forward-looking.
  • Participates in the reviews and coordination of day-ahead and longer-term scheduled interchanges and generating resources as applicable.
  • Runs established day-ahead and longer-term load forecast for Load Demand offers.
  • Provides support for the checkout verification and tracking of interchange transactions of energy purchases and/or sales with other entities.
  • As applicable, assists in coordination with other power marketing firms processes and communication.
  • Reviews potential market counterparties, develops contacts, and conducts research to support recommendations of purchase/sales contracts to expand Cooperative Energy's marketing capabilities.
  • Develop daily, monthly, and annual reports on marketing activities or other reports as may be required.
Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Mathematics Or
  • Bachelor's Degree Economics Or
  • Bachelor's Degree Finance Or
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering General Or Related Field

 *Control Center operations or commercial energy transaction experience of 5 or more years may be substituted in lieu of education requirements.

Experience:

  • Entry level position

Certification and Licensures:

  • Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening - Required
  • Valid Mississippi Driver's License - Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Ability to learn to identify, recommend, and transact transmission as applicable.
  • Superior numerical prowess.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment during routine and stressful situations.
  • Must be methodical and able to accurately handle details.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficient in Excel VBA or SQL.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
