Description
Provide engineering/technical expertise to solve the most complex problems, and provide leadership skills to provide in a specific area of expertise, with wide latitude for unreviewed work.  Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills, work independently and are to be considered industry experts in the utilities and distribution field.

Responsibilities:

  • Design 12.5/25 kV lines including municipal roadway projects and system expansion plan items.
  • Ability to calculate voltage drop ,flicker, fault current, transformer loading, and conductor sizing.
  • Project manager for large distribution projects including design through construction.
  • Major relocation design and project management for highway expansions.
  • Perform design audits and correct any deviations from company standards and procedures.
  • Create, assemble, print, and deliver construction plans including material lists and estimated work hours.
  • Track and manage ordering of long lead items for high profile projects.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party utilities and cities for common use pole lines in conjunction with joint use contracts.
  • Assist with engineering design for steel and concrete pole structures.
  • Individual contributor who works independently and can also mentor other engineering professionals.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 5 to 15 years as a practicing registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Registration eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or Petroleum) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • An expert in engineering theories and principles.
  • An expert in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership within the utility industry.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Skilled in principles of project management.
