Description
Eaton located in Peachtree City, GA has an opening for a Product Development Mechanical Design Engineer for the creative development of new ambient lighting products.
This position will contribute to the overall mechanical design of the product. This will include design of the necessary components as well as the structural and thermal analysis of the product. This position will work closely with the Ambient Program Manager, Marketing Manager, Optical Design Group, Electrical Engineering, Sourcing and Manufacturing personnel to develop the products in an organized and expedient fashion.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Marketing to ensure project specifications are clear, complete, and achievable.
- Ensure design progression via three dimensional modeling, thermal and mechanical analysis, drawing release, testing plan and third-party compliance.
- Consider project tooling budget and product cost requirements during the design.
- Coordinate with Sourcing personnel to ensure vendors are identified, quotations are being obtained and quality documents are being supplied.
- Coordinate with manufacturing personnel to ensure production site has been identified, production equipment and other requirements are being put in place and production readiness is achieved.
- Conduct design reviews as well as the Design and Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA, PFMEA) sessions to identify project risks and develop response plans
- Protects intellectual property created during the design process through patent disclosures
- Special projects as required by management.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
- Working knowledge of 3-D modeling software
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise with Solidworks 3-D modeling software
- Familiarity with injection molded plastic, die cast, or sheet metal design
- Familiarity with manufacturing methods & processes
- Basic understanding of thermal behaviors
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles

- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Skilled in writing specifications and end-user documentation
