Eaton's Vehicle Technology and Innovation Team is hiring a Lead Software Engineer. Eaton's Vehicle Technology and Innovation Team is an organization whose mission is to deliver profitable growth by developing new technology for passenger car and commercial vehicle markets worldwide.  We are currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer's for our Southfield, Michigan location.

Job Overview:

The Lead Software Engineer's primary function is to design, validate, and release software to support the development of new technology for passenger car and commercial vehicle powertrain systems.  The scope of responsibility is to conceptualize, architect, design, and test prototype software systems to validate technical feasibility and customer value.  The technical domain is powertrain software engineering for vehicular applications. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Be a key contributor to the continued development, validation and release of software for creation of new product opportunities that provide value through technology. 
  • Creates commercially viable design solutions for new product opportunities in the vehicle powertrain industry
  • Designs prototype and pre-production vehicle systems including conventional powertrain systems and hybrid powertrain systems. 
  • Invents new intellectual property that enables value creation.    
  • Oversees the installation of prototype systems into development vehicles and dynamometers. 
  • Interacts with engineers, designers, and technicians to accomplish project objectives. 
  • Interacts with customer, partner, and supplier organizations to accomplish project objectives.    
  • Perform/support vehicle modeling and simulation activities to predict performance and efficiency (with validation testing where required).
  • Make direct and substantive contributions to engineering team's continued development of the application controls model to incorporate new features which continue to increase the value of the hybrid product.
  • Support prototype and OEM vehicle integration and development efforts from the power train controls perspective.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in software engineering.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent and consistent basis without company sponsorship.  

Position Criteria:

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science degree in engineering field
  • Experience with the integration of systems
  • Experience with C, C++, Java, Access, Lab View, MATLAB, Simulink
  • Experience working with Controller Area Network (CAN) busses
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of internal combustion systems or vehicle power trains.
